Why is Good Dental Care Extra Important for the Elderly?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Our teeth do not automatically deteriorate simply because we get older. However, the teeth of someone aged 70 or 80 have naturally functioned much longer than those of someone aged 30. <\/p>\n\n

Fillings, crowns, and bridges may have been present for a long time, and gums can recede over the years. This can, for example, leave parts of the tooth root exposed.

  • a dry mouth;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • wear and tear of teeth and molars;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • problems surrounding crowns, bridges, or implants;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • dentures that no longer fit properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    Some problems develop slowly and cause few complaints initially. Therefore, check-ups remain useful, even when you do not experience any pain yourself. <\/p>\n\n

    Dry Mouth Due to Medication<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

    A dry mouth occurs regularly in the elderly. Often, age itself is not the primary cause, but factors such as medication or certain conditions play a role.
    Saliva has several important functions. It keeps the mouth moist, aids in eating and swallowing, and protects the teeth against acids.
    When too little saliva is present for an extended period, eating and speaking can become less comfortable. The risk of cavities can also increase.
