At We Smile Dentists we believe that good oral health starts at a young age. That’s why we’re introducing our Youth Prevention Plan to help children maintain healthy teeth and have a positive experience at the dentist.
What happens during the appointment
The Youth Prevention Plan starts around age 2, when your child’s baby teeth are fully grown. During the first check-up, the focus is on getting you used to the dental practice. Your child may sit alone in the chair or on your lap. If possible, they will look inside the mouth in a playful manner.

What does the youth prevention plan include:
- Getting used to the dental chair
Instruction and information for both the patient and the parents - Fluoride treatment for permanent teeth if indicated
- If indicated, x-rays are taken to monitor the growth of the teeth and detect hidden cavities
- If necessary, the permanent molars are sealed
- Checking oral hygiene, with information and instruction
- Checking dental development after eruption of permanent teeth and molars
- Explanation of future treatments. For example, if your child has a cavity, we will make an appointment for explanation and adjustment before the treatment takes place.
The Youth Prevention Plan is discussed personally with you and your child, because the plan differs per child. It depends on the child’s oral health, diet and general health.
